Due to spotty cell service in some of our buildings most notably in basement areas, we recommend enabling "Wi-Fi Calling" on your cell phone. This will allow calls to be routed through your phone's active Wi-Fi connection rather than your cell service. However, "Wi-Fi Calling" seems to only work while connected to the csu-net network and not hds-staff. The below guide will walk you through enabling Wi-Fi calling on an iPhone.

If you want to enable Wi-Fi calling on an Android phone you may follow the guide at the link below. Disclaimer: your Android device may not have the exact settings/menu names as listed in the following guide but the overall premise should be the same.

  1. Unlock your phone and open your "Settings" app.

2. In your settings menu, navigate to and click "Cellular"

3. In your "Cellular" menu navigate to where it says your carrier's name (Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) and below that should be "Wi-Fi Calling." Click into "Wi-Fi Calling"

4. In this "Wi-Fi Calling" menu there is an option that says "Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone," tap the slider on the right side to turn Wi-Fi Calling on.

5. You will get a prompt to Enable Wi-Fi Calling, go ahead and click "Enable." A window will now pop up stating that an "Emergency 911 Address" is required.

6. Fill out this form inputting the address for the building you primarily work in. For example if you primarily work in Parmelee Hall you would put in 701 W Laurel St, Fort Collins, CO 80521

Wi-Fi Calling should now be enabled, if your phone is or has connected to hds-staff you may have to forget the network so it may consistently work. Please follow the following steps to check and forget the hds-staff network if it is on your device.

1. Enter your Settings app or go back to your base settings menu and enter the "Wi-Fi" menu.

2. You should now see all available networks as well as "My Networks" which are networks you've previously connected to. If you see hds-staff under "My Networks" or if the hds-staff is checked at the top then you may follow the rest of this guide. If it's under "Other Networks" then you may ignore the rest of this guide as the hds-staff is not connected.

3. Tap the blue "i" directly to the right of where it says hds-staff.

4. In this menu will be all the configurations for hds-staff, at the top there should be "Forget This Network."

5. Clicking "Forget This Network"  will pop up a window confirming you want to forget the network, go ahead and click "Forget"

6. The hds-staff Wi-Fi should now be forgotten and will no longer auto-connect. If your phone is not connected to csu-net, please connect your phone to csu-net using your netID and netID password in order to connect to this network.
