What is GlobalProtect?

In simple terms, GlobalProtect is a VPN client from the Palo Alto company that will be replacing Pulse Secure as the way to securely connect to CSU resources.  CSU is planning on shifting away from using Pulse Secure by May 2022.

Why the shift to GlobalProtect?

As times and technologies change, new products and opportunities emerge.  CSU has been implementing new firewalls on campus from Palo Alto and part of that implementation includes the use of GlobalProtect.

GlobalProtect vs. Pulse Secure, What's the Difference?

From the end user perspective, you will notice two major differences.  The first is that you will need to authenticate using your eID instead of your HFS domain account.  The second change is that when you sign in, you will get a Duo authentication prompt.  From a functionality side, GlobalProtect is very similar to Pulse Secure.

Okay, So Now What?

To get ahead of the curve, HDS Technology Services is preemptively installing the GlobalProtect program on all computers that currently have Pulse Secure installed.  The program will be silently installed and configured in the background.  Please continue to use Pulse Secure while we work on getting everyone's access set up to use GlobalProtect.  When GlobalProtect permissions are fully set up for everyone, sufficient testing has been completed, and we receive the green light from the Division of IT, we will let you know.  As we transition over to GlobalProtect, we will be remotely uninstalling Pulse Secure from machines.  Again, we will let you know about the changes.

Do I Need To Do Anything?

At this time you do not need to do anything except continue to use Pulse Secure until CSU and HDS Technology Services get GlobalProtect all ready to use.  We are working diligently in our windowless basements to make sure that everything automagically works.
